José Miguel Meléndez Alarcón was born in Villa Clara province, located in the central region of the Island of Cuba.
A very talented instrumentalist, a great paila player, is considered among the best ones in the country, besides being a virtuous singer.
He performed with the Isaac Delgado orchestra, the "Irakere" group , and the "Manolín, el médico de la salsa" band and, later on, he decided to create his own musical group, called "José Miguel y su Balanza".
He has participated in the recording of phonograms like "El año que viene", a great hit by Isaac Delgado, and also with his own group.
Likewise, José Miguel is also a great composer, author of very popular themes like "Pa´ fuera, pa´ la calle" and "Mucha tranquilidad".
